Infant/Toddler Montessori Teacher Training Program

Canadian Montessori Academy Teacher Education Program in association with Montessori Teachers’ College of Sacramento, California, are pleased to offer Montessori Infant/Toddler training in Canada.

Founded in 1980, the Canadian Montessori Academy (CMA) is an independent private school affiliated with AMS, listed with the Ministry of Education of Ontario and governed by the Ontario Education Act. Since 1994 we have offered Montessori Teacher Education Programs.

Now for the first time in Canada we are offering an Infant/Toddler Teacher Education Program taught by Montessori Teachers College (MTC) and National Center for Montessori Education (NCME).

The CMA Infant/Toddler Teacher Education Program takes place at our 70 Fieldrow Street Campus in Ottawa, the federal capital of Canada. All of the cultural and educational resources of the Nation’s capital are just a short drive away.

To fully appreciate a career in Montessori education, we strongly recommend that you schedule a visit to a Montessori school. In fact, you may want to make visits to several Montessori schools in your area to see Montessori at work. Be sure to closely watch the children. Share your questions and interests with us.

WHAT MAKES THE CANADIAN MONTESSORI ACADEMY’S TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM SPECIAL?

• We define Montessori teacher education as a transformative experience. Learning to view and understand children in new ways involves providing you with coaching and mentoring support during a challenging learning experience.

• Our Course Instructors, some with more than twenty years of teaching experience, offer a rich background from owning schools to holding doctoral research degrees.

• Based on adult learning research, our courses of study will challenge you to reconsider your role as a teacher and learner.

• We believe that learning involves empowered partners. We each learn in relationship to others. We look forward to engaging in inquiry and dialogue with you. We encourage you to share your insights and experiences.

• We believe that learning is an active process. Our courses of study follow a logical progression of concepts and skills learned through a hands-on discovery and collaborative set of approaches.

• Mastery requires practice and repetition. Using curriculum handbooks, you will engage with instructors in learning how to work with children using the Montessori materials.

• To develop excellent teaching practices, we seek to help you master habits of mind: curiosity, creativity, independent thought, clarity, incisiveness of thought, tolerance for ambiguity, problem solving, time and resource management.

• Our purpose is to prepare you to become a Montessori teacher who can observe children closely and, on this basis, prepare learning environments, use materials with precision and care, identify and respond to children’s learning styles and their emotional and social needs.

• We take seriously Montessori’s vision of a science of education. We encourage you to keep up-to-date on contemporary research. Using reflective methods, we invite your continual re-examination of education theory and classroom practice.
