Canadian Montessori Academy

About Our School

Canadian Montessori Academy (CMA) is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS),  the International Montessori Council (IMC), National Center for Montessori Education (NCME) and is governed by the Education Act of Ontario, which is administered by the Ontario Ministry of Education. CMA was founded by Ayna A. Cader one of Maria Montessori's first pupils. The school has been in operation since 1980.

CMA has recently purchased a former public school building at 70 Fieldrow Street.  Our new extensive facility includes, a gym, music room, art room, computer lab, kinaesthetic room, and extensive play yard.  We also have the use of tennis courts, swimming pools, ice rinks, baseball diamond, soccer fields and several park facilities in close proximity to the school

We are a bilingual school with French and English qualified Montessori Teachers full time in all our classes.  With two Montessori qualified teacher's in each class your children are getting the maximum contact time with certified teachers and a natural exposure to a second language through constant contact with a French Montessori Teacher.

Canadian Montessori Academy Teacher Education Program is the only Montessori Teacher Training program in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.  With three levels of training we know for our excellently trained graduates who have been employed thought the local community and around the world.

Our Philosophy:

Our program is tailored to meet the needs of each student. We are constantly evolving and changing our activities to encourage independence in each child, in keeping with the Montessori philosophy.

Our Objectives

  • to help the child develop autonomy as a person
  • to have comfortable and productive peer relations
  • to learn those basic skills and concepts necessary for intellectual development
  • to be aware of and to organize the environment in terms of the child
  • to establish for the child effective learning strategies
  • to kindle an excitement for learning.

We need the parents' encouragement and cooperation. The school and the home can be extensions of one another. We feel, as directresses, that we grow, change and learn along with our pupils. Teaching is not a nine to five job. It's a full-time vocation. To be sensitive to the needs of each child, to prepare materials and activities and approach each child with love and understanding... these are the basic qualities of our directresses.

The Canadian Montessori Academy is a community of mind and spirit.

Come... be with us.
