This eighty-hour programme is designed for assistants in the Montessori classroom.
The programme is delivered over evenings and weekends during a period of two
months, allowing the students to implement the materials covered during the course in
their own classrooms. They will receive assignments based on their classroom
observation and will need to collaborate with their supervising teacher on a regular
basis in order to take full advantage of the programme.
Programme of Study
Courses begin annually, in January, and run for 2.5 months. Please refer to the
CMATEP programme schedule for exact dates.
The course is divided into two components: Lecture and Practicum.
- Lecture
- The lecture component consists of theoretical lessons and material
presentations. Lectures are held on evenings and Saturdays to allow students to
work while completing this course.
- Practicum
- The practicum, or hands-on component, is where theoretical knowledge is put to
work in the classroom. During the practicum phase of the course a minimum of
400 hours in an acceptable Montessori environment is required.
During the training cycle a member of the CMATEP faculty will schedule an
observation visit to each student's classroom in order to verify their skills.
Programme Concentrations
Each student must select to focus on either Infant/Toddler or Primary certification.
Dual certification (certification in both Infant/Toddler and Primary levels) requires an
additional 12 hours of lecture content, a second practicum, and an additional fee.
Certification
Graduates from this program will receive a certificate from Canadian Montessori
Academy Teacher Education Programme.
