Early Childhood Teacher Education Programme

Learn the Early Childhood Montessori Method of Education from the first accredited Montessori Teacher Education Programme in Canada. The Early Childhood Teacher Education programme leads to a Certificate in Montessori Early Childhood Education, qualifying successful candidates to work with students from 2.5 to 6 years of age.

Programme of Study

Courses begin semi-annually in January and July and run for 13 months. Please refer to the CMATEP programme schedule for exact dates.

The course is divided into two components: Lecture and Practicum.

  Lecture
The lecture component consists of theoretical lessons and material presentations. There are a total of nine weeks of lectures during this 13 month course. Lectures run from 8:00 to 5:00 daily.
  Practicum
The practicum, or hands-on component, is where theoretical knowledge is put to work in the classroom. During the practicum phase of the course a minimum of four hours per day, five days per week for a full school year in an acceptable Montessori environment is required.
Certification

Graduates from this program will receive a certificate from the Canadian Montessori Academy Teacher Education Programme with accreditation from the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) and a certificate from the American Montessori Society (AMS).

University Credit

Graduates of this program can transfer up to 18 credits towards a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education or 12 credits towards a Master’s in Education at Chaminade University. Remaining credits maybe earned with Chaminade University through their extensive online offerings from their Distance Education Department.
